- The end result speaks for itself – A first-class hotel spanning three levels, 60 plasma screens with 30 media channels, two restaurants, eight bars and seven function areas. As they say – "CHALK HOTEL - It's got something for everyone". Chalk Hotel, situated in Brisbane's inner-east, caters for every market from the local resident to business executive and travelling backpacker. Every night is different at Chalk and the range of activities and areas within the venue is extraordinary.
"Such variety and diversity will only be found in very few hotels in Australia."
The Project
- Previously known as the Railway Hotel, the owners of Chalk had a major renovation on their hands, having to close the hotel for 12 months. The new hotel houses the Official Social Club of the AFL's Brisbane Lions, with the Lions' home ground only 200 metres away. Project managers, Videopro Business Centre had worked with the owners of the hotel prior to this renovation, which assisted in understanding their expectations and vision.
The Vision
- Originally constructed in 1890, the Railway Hotel was one of Brisbane's oldest hotels. But based on the fact that there is a Railway Hotel in almost every Australian town, this name was never going to suit the uniqueness that the owners had of their vision. Having been involved in the rejuvenation of Hotel LA and the Regatta Hotel prior to the redevelopment of Chalk Hotel, general manager and shareholder Jason Titman knew exactly what it was going to take to make Chalk Hotel a success. "Our primary vision was to create a hotel that had a number of different spaces, each with its own atmosphere to appeal to a wide cross section of Brisbane's diverse population," stated Titman.

The Vision Becomes Reality
- The result is that Chalk is now 'the place to be seen'. To ensure this vision was achieved, Chalk was divided into specific areas – Sticks Bar, Sticks Den, Sticks Restaurant, Stumps Restaurant, Dust Cocktail Bar, Powder Room, Lions Den, The Boardroom, The Courtyard, Platform 3 and the entire Upper Level (Dust, Powder and Platform 3 combined). But that's not all! Chalk also offers daily activities including Kids' Club, Tuesday night Trivia, Wednesday night Speed Dating, Thursday night Fashion Parades and six days of live entertainment. To tie all these areas and activities together, they even have their own membership. Such variety and diversity will only be found in very few hotels in Australia. The hotel owners wanted each of these areas to have its own unique 'look and feel' to appeal to a range of different patrons. This was successfully achieved through the use of the most advanced and high quality technology available and this has been the unique selling point of the hotel since its inception.
